Moment Notes · Privacy

Your notes stay on your PC.

Moment Notes is a local Windows plugin for Stream Deck. It reads OBS recording status and saves the notes you create on your PC. It does not provide a cloud account or upload your notes to a seller-operated service.

Updated October 5, 2026. Applies to Moment Notes 0.1.3.0.

What it uses and keeps

InformationPurpose and location
Project name, chosen notes folder, OBS port and observation preferenceSetup saved in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MomentNotes\settings.json. Older setup copies are kept in the same folder.
OBS password, if enteredSaved in protected form using Windows DPAPI for the current Windows account. The password is unlocked locally when authenticating to OBS.
Your markers and typed detailsSaved in a journal.jsonl file inside each take-… folder under your chosen notes folder.
Take identifiers, dates, recording state, estimated times and timing diagnosticsUsed to organize notes and detect uncertain recording associations. Stored in the local journal.
Recording file paths reported by OBSUsed to identify a completed recording, or record a file split. A path can contain a Windows username or project information.
Readable notesGenerated locally as HTML, CSV and Markdown. A local take-list HTML file is also generated in the notes folder.
Operational warnings or errorsThe Stream Deck SDK can keep local plugin logs. The plugin uses warning-level logging; an unexpected error may include a local file path. Logs are not automatically submitted to the seller.

The default notes location is the Moment Notes folder inside your Windows user's Documents directory. The Notes folder shown in the setup panel is the location to use for your actual data.

Notes and exports are readable files, not encrypted by Moment Notes. Windows account and folder permissions, drive encryption and your backup choices determine who else can access them. Protect your computer accordingly.

What leaves the plugin

The plugin communicates locally with Stream Deck and with OBS at 127.0.0.1 on the configured port. It requests OBS version and recording status and receives recording events. The setup panel sends your settings and typed detail to the local plugin. Opening notes asks your browser to open a local file.

Moment Notes does not implement analytics uploads, advertising, automatic crash-report uploads, cloud synchronization, microphone/camera capture, speech transcription or AI-service calls. It does not read the contents of your video to make notes.

Elgato Marketplace, Stream Deck, OBS, Windows and your browser are separate products with their own data practices. If you choose a folder synchronized by OneDrive or another service, that service may upload the files. If you send a support message or share an export, the information you include goes to that destination by your choice.

Buying through Elgato Marketplace

Purchases are made through Elgato Marketplace under Elgato's own terms and privacy practices. The plugin itself has no account and sends nothing about you to us.

Passwords and backups

The setup panel shows whether a password is stored; it does not display the saved password. A blank field retains it. Remove password clears it from the active configuration but does not remove older protected copies in setup backups, or change the password in OBS.

DPAPI protection is tied to your Windows account and is not a portable password vault. Do not share settings.json, its backups or their protected values. To revoke an old credential, change the password in OBS and update Moment Notes. To remove local retained setup copies, follow the deletion steps below.

Retention, edits and deletion

Notes remain until you remove them. Undo hides the latest remaining note from current exports; it does not erase its original text from the journal. Add detail also records a change instead of erasing the old journal entry. Recovery may preserve an interrupted-write backup. Setup backups are not automatically purged by the plugin. SDK operational logs rotate locally.

To remove data safely:

  1. Finish any recording when convenient, click Disconnect in Moment Notes, then quit Stream Deck from its tray menu so the plugin is no longer using the files.
  2. Keep any private backup you want. In the chosen notes folder, remove only the Moment Notes take-… folders you intend to erase, including their journals, exports and recovery backups. Look through the folder first; do not delete unrelated files or an entire shared parent folder.
  3. Remove the generated Moment-Notes-library.html if it still lists deleted takes. It can be recreated when Project is opened. Delete any extra export copies, screenshots or PDFs separately if you also want those removed.
  4. To erase setup and saved credential copies, remove %LOCALAPPDATA%\MomentNotes while Stream Deck is closed. This resets project/folder/port/observation settings; it does not erase notes in your chosen notes folder or change OBS. Reopening requires setup again.
  5. If you also want operational logs removed, locate the installed com.agenticgalaxy.momentnotes.sdPlugin folder under Stream Deck's Plugins folder and remove only its logs subfolder while the app is closed. Leave other plugins and their data alone.

Normal Windows deletion can leave files in the Recycle Bin, backups or synchronized-folder history. Those copies are managed by Windows or the relevant storage service, not by Moment Notes. Uninstalling the plugin should not be treated as proof that user notes, configuration backups or independently made copies have been erased.

Getting help privately

Write to [email protected]. Start with versions, the visible error and steps to reproduce. Use made-up note text for examples. Do not send an OBS password, configuration file, full notes folder, private recording or confidential transcript. Check and crop screenshots before sharing them. We will agree on a minimal sanitized example with you if an initial description is insufficient.
